An RC Jet is the logical choice for any pilot that has a need for speed. Radio Controlled Jets are probably not the best choice if you’re just starting out flying rc aircraft, it’s tempting, but as they’re a little more difficult to fly than your average rc airplane, it’s probably best to get your practice on an easier aircraft before buying your first RC Jet.
Foam EDF RTF RC Jets have undoubtedly grown in popularity recently, due to being Ready to Fly, easier to get the hang of than their gas powered counterparts, and for being great value. If you are looking to purchase your very first Jet kit, then an RTF foam kit is highly recommended.

Electric Ducted Fan (EDF) Propelled RC Jets

EDF Model Jets use electric ducted fans to propel the aircraft as opposed to other models that have unrealistic propellers either on the nose or rear of the plane. These RC Jets have a efficient impeller design, which as it spins, sucks the air into the jet fuselage, where it is then used forced out the back of the plane creating enough momentum to sustain flight. This very small and powerful impeller operates at extremely high RPM’s, which creates a massive amount of power and potential speed for the jet aircraft. The specifications of each model do vary though, and as RC Jets in particular are quite powerful, it’s important to match the aircraft to your personal skill level.
Ready to Fly foam EDF kits are readily available in the marketplace today, and the quality of build as well as the impressive attention to detail especially in the replica rc jets, means that there is a jet out there for absolutely everyone, whatever their skill set. Remote control jets used to be the holy grail of rc model aircraft, but with more affordable pricing and an ever increasing following, rc jets can be seen flying around just about everywhere nowadays.
Gas Turbine Powered RC Jets
Some model airplane enthusiasts might consider gas powered RC jets to be the pinnacle of rc aircraft due to their true-to-reality specs. However for the average rc flyer, the sheer price of one of these bad boys alone is enough to bring on a coronary. But if you are a highly experienced RC pilot and have the funds, you could very well become the envy of your peers by owning a gas jet. Watching one of these jets in action is a unique experience, as is flying one. The stunning realism, both in the attention to scale detail as well as manoeuvrability, oh and the sound – wow! You really should get down to an RC club and see one of these in the flesh, the gas turbine jet really is in a class of its own.
